The Speakers:
Anju Usman, M.D.
Minerals, Metals and Mercury in ASD
Dr. Usman is the Director of True Health Medical Center in Naperville, IL where she specializes in treating biochemical imbalances in children with ADD and Autism. She will discuss mercury toxicity, and the fact that ASD children have a greater mercury burden than normal. Furthermore, ASD children have a functional problem with their detoxification systems. Her presentation will include methods to clean up the environment, diet and gut, and remove toxic metals (using TD DMPS). She will also discuss Methyl B12 injections, all of which may help improve the child’s function in many areas. Dr. Usman is a local DAN (Defeat Autism Now) doctor who has researched copper/zinc imbalances, metallothionein dysfunction and promotion therapy. She received her degree from Indiana University, completed residency at Cook County Hospital, and is board certified in Family Practice.
James B. Adams, Ph.D.
Mercury Toxicity and Autism
Dr. Adams is a professor at Arizona State University, where he researches biochemical causes of autism and how to treat them, with a focus on heavy metal toxicity and nutritional deficiencies. He is also president of the Greater Phoenix Chapter of the Autism Society of America and the father of a child with autism.
Dr. Adam’s presentation will discuss the major sources of mercury and numerous studies that demonstrate substantially elevated levels of mercury in children with autism. He will talk about two studies that found low levels of glutathione in children with autism, which may partially explain the inhibited ability to excrete mercury. Furthermore, Dr. Adams will present information on the mixed studies about the possible link between autism and thimerosal vaccines.

Barbara T. Doyle, M.S.
Creating Lifetime Plans
Barbara T. Doyle, M.S. is back! At the 2003 CARE Conference, participants told us how impressed they were and to bring Barbara back, and give her more time to speak. We have listened and are proud to announce she will be presenting two topics this year.
Are you worried about the future of an individual with ASD? Stop worrying and start making choices that will create the best possible future! Learn the importance of lifetime planning through the lifespan of individuals with ASD. In this presentation, you will learn the components and strategies of a lifetime plan, communication ideas to enhance lifetime planning, and resources to help make the plans successful.
10 Lifetime Goals, For People of All Ages, with ASD
Oddly enough, academic knowledge will NOT ensure a successful life for children and adults with ASD. What ARE the most important skills that individuals with ASD must have to live a successful and participatory life in the community? Attendees will learn about vital goals that result in the most promise for participation and contribution. With a focus on current and future success, these goals ensure that no time is wasted in working with children and adults with ASD.
